Trauma Informed Care: How to Prevent and De-Escalate Re-Traumatization

Wendy Westergard, MA, MSC, LMFT, LCADC is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master’s degree in speech communication and a master’s degree in marriage, child and family therapy. She has extensive training and experience in trauma-informed treatment, including guided imagery, EMDR and most extensively Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), which is a neurobiological approach to treating affect dysregulation, survival defenses, trauma memories, developmental wounds and attachment injuries. Wendy delights in witnessing people truly heal from tragedy, feel safe in their bodies, and embrace relationships. Her private practice is in Reno, where she treats families, couples, and individuals of all ages. Wendy is a former board member of the Nevada State Board of Examiners for Marriage and Family Therapists and Clinical Professional Counselors. NMC is filled with the incredible individuals who volunteer and it’s a special treat when we have a volunteer with knowledge they can pass on. Wendy provided NMC with an In-Service on ‘Trauma Informed Care’ and welcomed us to pass it along.
